Azim Premji tops Edelgive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2021

  • Azim Premji, the founder-chairman of Wipro Ltd has topped the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2021.
  • The 76-year-old, made the highest contribution of Rs 9,713 crore between April 2020 and March 2021 towards philanthropic causes to retain the top position for second year in a row.
  • Shiv Nadar, founder and chairman of HCL Technologies, retained second spot with an annual donation of Rs 1,263 crore.
  • India’s richest man and the chairman of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani stood at the third spot with an annual donation of Rs 577 crore.
  • The EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2021 is compiled by the EdelGive Foundation and Hurun Research Institute. It is the eighth edition of the annual list.
  • The list ranks individuals from India who donated Rs 5 crore and above between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021 towards philanthropic contributions.

IREDA launches ‘Whistle Blower’ portal

  • The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) has launched a ‘Whistle-blower Portal’ as a part of celebration of ‘Vigilance Awareness Week 2021’.
  • The portal was launched by Shri Pradip Kumar Das, Chairman & Managing Director (CMD), IREDA on November 02, 2021.
  • The Whistle-blower Portal has been developed by IT Team of the company and will help the IREDA employees to raise concerns related to fraud, corruption, abuse of power among other things.
  • The IREDA is a PSU under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) established as a Non-Banking Financial Institution.

Ministry of Rural Development inks MoU with Flipkart to enhance rural livelihoods 

  • The e-commerce marketplace Flipkart has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) to support the ambitious Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) program.
  • The MoU will help to empower local businesses and self-help groups (SHGs) by bringing them on the e-commerce platform to sell their products. SHGs led by women would be given special focus.
  • The MoU is a part of Flipkart’s Samarth programme which aims to support skilled craftsmen, weavers and artisans of under-served community by helping them to sell online through Flipkart marketplace.
  • Under the programme, e-commerce knowledge and training around onboarding, cataloging, marketing, account management, business insights, and warehousing are also imparted.

CCI approves acquisition of 100% shareholding in Exide Life by HDFC Life

  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the accquisition of 100% shareholding in Exide Life Insurance Company Limited by HDFC Life Insurance Company.
  • The acquisition has been approved under Section 31(1) of the Competition Act, 2002.
  • After the acquisition Exide Life will become wholly owned subsidiary of HDFC Life.
  • It is proposed to merge Exide Life with HDFC Life.

IRCTC and Truecaller join hands to reduce fraud activities

  • The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has entered into a partnership with caller identification platform Truecaller, in an effort to reduce fraudulent activities.
  • The aim of this partnership is to assure passengers that the critical communication such as booking details or PNR status is being delivered by IRCTC and no one else.
  • Under the agreement, the integrated Helpline Number of Indian Railways, 139, will now be verified by Truecaller Business Identity solutions.
