Highlights:
♦ The CORPAT is being carried out by the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Karmuk, an indigenously built Missile Corvette, and His Majesty’s Thailand Ship (HTMS) Tayanchon, a Khamrosin Class Anti-submarine Patrol Craft, and Maritime Patrol Aircraft from both fleets.
♦ CORPAT enables the establishment of measures to prevent and suppress illegal activities such as illegal unreported unregulated (IUU) fishing, drug trafficking, maritime terrorism, armed robbery, and piracy by increasing understanding and interoperability between fleets.
♦ It also contributes to operational synergy by exchanging information for the prevention of smuggling, illegal immigration, and the conduct of maritime search and rescue (SAR) operations.
♦ The exercise is aimed at strengthening marine ties between the two countries and ensuring the safety and security of this key section of the Indian Ocean for international trade.
♦ Since 2005, India and Thailand have conducted CORPAT along their International Maritime Boundary Line twice a year.
