Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen Phase-II

11 June 2021 Current Affairs:Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) [SBM (G)] During Covid-19, the second phase is progressing steadily, with 1,249 villages declaring ODF (Open Defecation Free) Plus. The Ministry of Jal Shakti approved SBM (G) Phase-II in February 2020. ODF Plus entails maintaining ODF behaviours and providing access to solid and liquid waste management to every village.

About SBM(G) Phase-II:
♦ It emphasises the sustainability of phase I achievements and the provision of adequate Solid/Liquid & Plastic Waste Management (SLWM) facilities in rural India.
♦ SBM (G) Phase-II will be implemented in mission mode from 2020-21 to 2024-25, with a total investment of Rs. 1,40,881 crores.
♦ The distribution of funds between the Centre and the states will be 90:10 for the North-Eastern States, Himalayan States, and the UT of J&K; 60:40 for the rest of the states; and 100 percent for the rest of the Union Territories.
♦ SLWM funding norms have been rationalised and changed to a per capita basis rather than the number of households.
The ODF Plus SLWM component will be monitored using output-outcome indicators for four key areas:
♦ Plastic waste management,
♦ Biodegradable solid waste management (such as animal waste management),
♦ Greywater (Household Wastewater) management
♦ Management of fecal sludge
