11 June 2021 Current Affairs:The company stated on its website that Facebook has appointed Spoorthi Priya as its complaint officer in India. This move follows the 2021 New Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) rules that came into effect last month. 

Highlights:
♦ According to the government guidelines, social media companies with more than 5 million users must appoint an appeal officer, node officer, and chief compliance officer.
♦ All three personnel must be Indian residents. A few days ago, Facebook’s messaging platform WhatsApp appointed Paresh B Lal as the complaint officer. WhatsApp, Facebook, and Google shared their compliance officer, resident complaint officer, and node contact information with the government on May 29. Two days after the new IT rules take effect.
♦ Social media platforms must also publish the name of the complaint officer and other relevant information on their website so that everyone can easily reach them.
♦ The complaint officer is also responsible for ensuring that the complaint is confirmed within 24 hours and properly handled within 15 days from the date of filing, and that it receives and confirms any orders, notices or instructions issued by the authorities.
