The “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Urban Index and Dashboard 2021-22” was launched by NITI Aayog.

Highlights:

The cities of Coimbatore and Chandigarh were placed second and third, respectively.
The top ten cities on the index are Thiruvananthapuram, Panaji, Pune, Kochi, Tiruchirappalli, Ahmedabad, and Nagpur.

Dashboard and SDG Urban Index

NITI Aayog launched the SDG Urban Index and Dashboard (2021-22) on November 23, 2021.
The SDG framework, rates 56 urban regions on 77 SDG indicators, including zero hunger, eradicating poverty, great education, good health and wellbeing, gender equality, and so on. The index and dashboard will aid in SDG localization and implementation, as well as comprehensive SDG monitoring at the municipal level. 
The index identifies the strengths and weaknesses of ULB’s data, monitoring, and reporting systems.

The index ranking areas

44 of the 56 cities rated in the index have a population of more than one million people. Twelve of the state capitals have a population of under one million people.
