♦ Out of 100 most vulnerable cities, 99 are located in Asia.
♦ Of these 100 countries, about 37 are in China and 43 are in India. China and India are the world’s first and third largest emitters of greenhouse gases.
♦ About 1.5 billion people live in 414 cities around the world, many of whom are at risk of water scarcity, pollution, natural disasters, extreme heat, and other physical effects of climate change.
♦ Thirteen of the top twenty riskiest cities are located in India. This was mostly due to contamination of the air and water.
♦ The riskiest city in the world was Jakarta, which topped the list.
♦ China’s flood-prone towns, Dongguan and Guangzhou, topped the list of cities under pressure from natural disasters. They were followed by Japan’s Osaka and Tokyo. Typhoons and earthquakes are common in Japan’s cities.
♦ Lima is the only city outside of Asia to make the list of the world’s top 100 riskiest cities.
♦ Glasgow was named the safest city in the world.
