09 November 2021 Current Affairs:In J&K, the “Pakal Dul Hydroelectric Project” was inaugurated by the Union Power Minister.

Highlights:
♦ Pakal Dul HE Project (1,000 MW) is being built by Chenab Valley Power Projects Pvt Limited (CVPPPL) and Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation in Kishtwar, J&K.
♦  Union Power Minister R K Singh virtually inaugurated the diversion of the Marusudar River of Pakal Dul HE Project in Kishtwar, J&K. 
♦ The Chenab River is fed by the Marusudar River, which is a major tributary.

“Pakal Dul Hydroelectric Project” 
♦ The Pakal Dul HE Project has a capacity of 1000 MW. Chenab Valley Power Projects [P] Ltd is constructing it. 
♦ JKSPDC (Govt of J&K) and NHPC Ltd have formed a joint venture business (Govt of India Enterprise).
♦ The Pakal Dul H.E. Project will contribute to achieving the 450 GW renewable energy target by 2030.
♦ CVPPPL has been tasked with the building of 3094 MW hydropower projects in J&K.
♦  A 10 km long headrace tunnel will be used to move water from the dam to the south. 
♦ In February 2014, this project was granted to a coalition of domestic and foreign companies led by Bharat Heavy Electricals, AFCONS, and Jay Prakash Associate.
♦ In this region, an investment of Rs 8212 crores is being made through this project. 
♦ As a result of the investment, direct and indirect job opportunities will be created. It will contribute to the general development of the local population.
