16 August 2021 Current Affairs:The species belong to the genus Impatiens (family Balsaminaceae). Plants of this genus are popular as ‘Kasithumba’ in Malayalam.

Highlights:
They have been spotted in the Western Ghats vicinity of southern Kerala and the Idukki district. Of the three species, two have been named after Communist veteran & former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan & the former Health Minister, K.K. Shailaja.
