♦ The goal of the day is to raise awareness and appreciate the altruistic contributions made by departed donors to healthcare and humanity in order to restore our trust in humanity. National Organ Donation Day will be celebrated for the 12th time in 2021.
♦ It is organised by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO).
♦ Organ donation is the process of removing a deceased donor’s organs such as the heart, liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs, and pancreas and transplantation them into another person in need of an organ.
♦ 500,000 people die as a result of organ shortages, 200,000 as a result of liver illness, and 50,000 as a result of heart disease.
♦ Furthermore, 150,000 patients are waiting for a kidney transplant, but only 5,000 are chosen.
