MoU for Production of Medicinal Plants and Promotion of Cultivation

07 June 2021 Current Affairs:The National Medicinal Plant Board and the National Botanical Research Institute signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote the cultivation and production of medicinal plants.

Highlights:
♦ The MoU will make it easier to develop Quality Planting Material (QPM) from medicinal plants and herbs identified by the NMPB. 
♦ It will also aid in the establishment of their QPM nurseries, as well as the development, promotion, conservation, and cultivation of appropriate medicinal plants in various agro-climatic zones, including threatened medicinal plant species and plants for high-altitude region.

About National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI):
♦ The CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute is a constituent research institute of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
♦ Originally established by the State Government of Uttar Pradesh as the National Botanic Gardens (NBG), it was taken over by the CSIR in 1953.
♦ In 1978, it was renamed to its current name.
