04 October 2021 Current Affairs:LIFE, a Delhi based environmental organization, has been felicitated with the 2021 Right Livelihood Award, also known as Sweden’s alternative Nobel Prize.

Highlights:
♦ The Delhi-based environmental organization, “Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment (LIFE)”, has been chosen for the Award for its “grassroots strategy of enabling helpless societies to guard their livelihoods and claim their right to a sanitary environment.”
♦ The Award was founded in 1980 by German-Swedish philanthropist Jakob von Uexkull.
♦ The Right Livelihood Award comes with a cash prize of 1 million Swedish crowns ($115,000) and long-term support to highlight and develop Laureates’.
♦ Awardees are selected by the jury of Stockholm-based Right Livelihood.
♦ LIFE was established in 2005 by lawyers Ritwick Dutta and Rahul. It has been striving against India’s most vital environmental threats.
♦ LIFE was founded to bridge the gap between India’s environmental protection law framework and those who are trying to access it.
