Highlights
♦ The Day is commemorated to acknowledge the progress of reducing disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods and health.
♦ Theme for 2021 focuses on “International cooperation for developing countries to reduce their disaster risk and disaster losses.”
♦ The Year 2021 guarantees to be a make or break year when delivering on the policy agenda agreed in 2015.
♦ Extreme weather events are overwhelming without real action on climate within the next ten years, especially for developing countries.
♦ International cooperation for developing countries over Official Development Aid (ODA) and capacity building is crucial to boost up disaster resilience within the face of utmost weather events and other natural and artificial hazards.
Sendai Seven Targets:
♦ The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction plans seven clear targets and four priorities for action to prevent new and reduce existing disaster risks
♦ The Frame was adopted at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan, on 18 March 2015.
