♦ According to the guidelines, all social media platforms must establish a grievance redressal and compliance mechanism, which includes appointing a resident grievance officer, chief compliance officer, and a nodal contact person.
♦ The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had also requested that these platforms submit monthly reports on user complaints and actions taken.
♦ A third requirement for instant messaging apps was to include provisions for tracing the initial sender of a message.
♦ Failure to meet any of these requirements would result in the loss of the indemnity (security) provided to social media intermediaries under Section 79 of the Information Technology Act.
