23 December 2021 Current Affairs:Pradeep Kumar Rawat, a senior Indian diplomat with experience dealing with Chinese diplomats, has been named India’s next Ambassador to China.
Highlights:
- The appointment of Rawat comes in the midst of a prolonged border standoff in eastern Ladakh. Rawat is the country’s representative to the Netherlands at the moment.
- Rawat, a 1990 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, is currently the country’s envoy to the Netherlands.
- When the Doklam border standoff occurred in 2017, he was the MEA’s joint secretary (East Asia).
- Before moving to Indonesia as an ambassador, he was part of the early stages of the negotiations.
- From September 2017 to December 2020, Rawat was India’s envoy to Indonesia and Timor-Leste.
- He has already served in Hong Kong and Beijing and speaks Mandarin fluently.
