02 November 2021 Current Affairs:Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Minority Affairs Minister announced Haj 2022 on November 1, 2021, at Hajj House in south Mumbai.

Highlights
♦ The online application process has started and the last date to apply is January 31, 2022.
♦ People will be able to apply through Hajj mobile app.
♦ The Hajj is an Islamic pilgrimage, performed annually in the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. From India, two lakh Hajj pilgrims visit Saudi Arabia every year.
♦ The new arrangement will help in saving crores of rupees of Indian Hajj pilgrims.

Reforms:
♦ This year, the Union Minister for Minority Affairs announced considerable improvements and improved facilities.
♦ From now on, Indian Hajj pilgrims would promote a ‘voice for local’. 
♦ They will go to Hajj with Indian-made things and avoid purchasing bed sheets, pillows, and towels using foreign currency. 
♦ These items will be offered to pilgrims at the embarkation sites in India for around half the price they would cost in Saudi Arabia.
♦ The number of embarkation points for Hajj 2022 has been cut from 21 to 10.
♦ Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, Cochin, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Srinagar are the ten embarkation sites.

Selections and Women Participants
♦ The Hajj pilgrims will be selected in accordance with the Covid-19 protocol. The Indian and Saudi governments will decide on the rules.
♦ In the “without Mehram” category, almost 3000 women applied for Haj 2020 and 2021. 
♦ Their Haj applications will be accepted in 2022. Other women can apply for Haj 2022 under the “without Mehram” category. 
♦ The lottery mechanism will not apply to these women.
