Hackathon 2021 – India Plastic Challenge

12 June 2021 Current Affairs:The India Plastic Challenge – Hackathon 2021 was launched by the Environment Minister. 

About the Hackathon:
♦ It is a campaign that encourages start-ups/entrepreneurs and students at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to create innovative solutions to reduce plastic pollution and find alternatives to single-use plastics.
♦ The two-month-long campaign ‘Plastic Hackathon 2021′ focuses on plastic waste management and the elimination of identified single-use plastics. 
♦ The campaign aims to develop suitable alternatives to single-use plastics and to identify new methods of managing plastic waste.
♦ A series of events will be organised as part of the campaign to reduce plastic waste generation, recognise the need for effective plastic waste management, raise awareness of suitable alternatives, promote sustainable consumption and production, and extend producer responsibility.
♦ It also includes holding essay contests for schoolchildren.
♦ The campaign is being organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit), a German organisation that collaborates with Indian partners to achieve sustainable economic, ecological, and social development.
