08 January 2022 Current Affairs:Neil Nongkynrih, the founder of the Shillong Chamber Choir (SCC) and a renowned Indian concert pianist, has died.
Highlights:
- During former US President Barack Obama’s and Michelle Obama’s visit to India in 2010, SCC performed for them.
- Neil Nongkynrih, or Uncle Neil, was the founder of the Shillong Chamber Choir and a renowned pianist. He was 51 years old at the time.
- During the live transmission program of Indian space rocket Chandrayaan – 2’s arrival on the moon, SCC’s version of ‘Vande Mataram was played.
- He was given the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honor, in 2015. Neil died on January 5th at the Reliance Hospital in Mumbai after a short illness.
- In 2010, Neil’s choir won India’s Got Talent. In 2015, he received the Padma Shri award.
