04 October 2021 Current Affairs:The Ministry of Commerce & Industry, the first delivery of Kashmiri walnuts was sent off from Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, under the One District, One Product (ODOP) initiative.

Highlights
♦ Truck carrying 2,000 kgs was despatched from Budgam to Bengaluru, Karnataka.
90% of India’s walnut production is from Kashmir.
♦ Kashmiri walnuts are of superior quality & taste and are an excellent source of nutrients. Hence, they are highly in demand worldwide.
♦ Walnuts have immense potential to form an area for itself across the local and global markets.
♦ ‘One district, One product’ team recognized that walnuts were being imported into India on an outsized scale, despite the large availability of Kashmir walnuts. With the assistance of dedicated handholding at both ends, the team was ready to facilitate the procurement.
