23 September 2021 Current Affairs:The Education Ministry forms a 12 member committee chaired by former ISRO chairman K. Kasturirangan to develop a new National Curriculum Framework (NCF).

Highlights:

♦Dr. Kasturirangan chaired the drafting committee for the National Education Policy, 2020, which recommended developing a new NCF. 
♦The committee has been given a tenure of three years to complete its task.
♦NCF is a guiding document for developing textbooks, syllabi, and teaching practices in schools across the country. 
♦It will develop four frameworks to guide school education, teacher education curriculum, early childhood education, and adult education.

Features of National Education Policy 2020.

♦The current 10+2 system is going to be divided into,
     ♦5 (Three to eight years) 
     ♦+3 (8to 11 years) 
     ♦+3 (11 to 14 years) 
     ♦+4 (14 to 18 years) formats.
♦Co-curricular and vocational subjects like sports, arts, commerce, and science will be treated similarly.
♦The medium of instruction in schools until a minimum of Class 5, but preferably until Class 8 and beyond, will be the home language, mother tongue, or regional language.
♦Multi-disciplinary education framework with portable credits and multiple exits with certificates, diplomas, and degrees.
♦The Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) will be established as one umbrella body for higher education, excluding medical and legal education.
♦National Educational Technology Forum (NETF) will be created to produce a platform for the free exchange of ideas on technology employment.
