23 September 2021 Current Affairs:The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has developed its indigenous charger for electric vehicles (EV) to offer a push to the Electric Vehicles (EV) ecosystem in India.

Highlights
♦  ARAI has developed indigenous technology for EV chargers called AC001. It’s been taken up for manufacturing and promotion by Bharat Electronics.
♦ Charging points will be started by Bharat Electronics, while the parts for EV charger systems like Type 1, Type 2, CCS & CHAdeMO will be manufactured locally.
♦  Apart from that, ARAI is fixing its new center in Takwe because ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistant System) vehicles and cylinder testing centers require dedicated space.
♦  ARAI will make investments of around Rs 500 crore in a phased manner within the next 3-4 years to set up this center.
♦  ARAI is in talks with Telangana and Kerala to line up such centers.
♦  The cost of the EV chargers is predicted to be between Rs 50000 to Rs 60000.
♦  ARAI  signed a deal with Bharat Electronics Limited on EV chargers. According to the deal, ARAI will provide the actual know-how of the costs while Bharat Electronics will manufacture them.
