10 December 2020 Current Affairs:International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this crime observed on the 9th of December. The day also marks the 72nd anniversary of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. The day aims to raise awareness of the Genocide Convention and its role in combating and preventing the crime of genocide as defined in the Convention and to commemorate and honor its victims.
How to Prevent Genocide?
Genocide and genocidal conflicts are more important for Genocide and related atrocities that tend to occur in societies with diverse national, racial, ethnic, or religious groups that are locked in identity-related conflicts. To prevent Genocide, first the factors (discriminatory practices) in a given situation that lead to or account for acute disparities in the treatment of a diverse population should be identified. Then, ways to diminish should be found and eventually eradicate these possible causes of genocidal violence. The day is observed as genocide is a truly global challenge.
