Indian Navy Day is observed on December 4th every year to commemorate the “Trident” operation. The Navy also organized a moderation retreat ceremony at the Gateway of India in Mumbai on the eve of Naval Memorial Day.
Highlights:
♦ Indian Navy’s supreme commander by the President of India. The motto of the Indian Navy is-Sam no Varunah (Sam no Varunah), which means Varuna, the god of water, should be auspicious to us.
♦ Some of the earliest actions of the Indian Navy included its contribution to the liberation of Goa from Portugal in 1961.
♦ With the manufacture of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine INS Arihant and several other ships, the Navy has developed into an admirable force.
♦ The Indian Navy currently owns an aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, a former Russian ship that entered service in 2013. It operates three types of submarines: Chakra (the nuclear-powered INS Chakra), Sindgerhosh and Shishumar.
♦ The Marine Commando or MARCOS is a special force of the Indian Navy. It is well-trained and can conduct amphibious operations, counter-terrorism, special reconnaissance, hostage rescue and asymmetric operations.
♦ They were the first to respond to the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks.
